Lions Cricket welcomes DP World as headline partner of the men’s and women’s teams as well as the Wanderers Stadium.

As a result of the 100% acquisition of Imperial Logistics Limited (“Imperial”) by DP World Logistics FZE (‘DP World’) in March 2022, the men’s and women’s teams of Lions Cricket as well as the home of South Africa’s iconic and exclusive Tier One stadium, Wanderers Stadium will now transition from the Imperial Brand to DP World.

Lions Cricket President Anne Vilas extends a warm welcome to the DP World family;

“What an honour to align our much loved Lions Cricket brand with DP World, through our valued partners and fellow family members Imperial. A continuation of our Imperial journey, we’ve always had high hopes for our Pride of Jozi brand and have no doubt that DP World will empower our Pride to break many more records on field and off, ensuring that we always deliver on our promise of passion, pride and professionalism for the game to our stakeholders and fans.”

Group Chief Operating Officer of DP World Logistics & Group Chief Executive Officer of Imperial, Mohammed Akoojee;

“Lions Cricket is one of South Africa’s leading cricket associations, with a premier stadium that is iconic across the globe. Through this continued partnership, which started under the Imperial partnership in 2019, we are now bringing together two organisations with a mutual objective for excellence and driving results, and a shared aim to push boundaries to change what’s possible. We look forward to what is to come in the future and wish the now DP World Lions the best of luck ahead for what promises to be a hugely exciting period for South African cricket.”

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says that this global partnership is the continuation of greater things to come;

“We take tremendous pride in the Imperial partnership and to now have a broader global backing from DP World speaks to the pride, passion and professionalism that is Lions Cricket, day in and day out. As we partner with a brand that now employs in excess of 120 000 team members, we’re thrilled for the years ahead and as we transition from Imperial we’d like to assure our stakeholders, fans and players that our promise of excellence will always remain. We’ve witnessed the sports strategy of DP World in golf with the DP World Tour and feel truly honoured to be supported by this powerhouse brand. The DP World Lions (men and women) cricket teams and the DP World Wanderers Stadium will continue to drive excellence and be a brand loved by South Africans both on and off the field.”
