#ThePrideOfJozi warmly welcomes leading logistics giant DP World, as naming rights partner to the

DP World Wanderers Stadium.

Yesterday’s unveiling witnessed the 66-year-old formerly Imperial Wanderers Stadium, undergo a name change to the DP World Wanderers Stadium. This follows the 100% acquisition of Imperial Logistics Limited (“Imperial”) by DP World Logistics FZE (“DP World”) in March 2022.

Lions Cricket fans will recall the pre-season name change of the men’s and women’s professional teams Imperial Lions to DP World Lions; the stadium naming rights is an extension of the match-winning partnership.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at DP World, said: “We place a strong emphasis on empowering and supporting the local people and communities in which we operate, while delivering sustainable and inclusive growth. Taking over the naming rights of the most iconic stadium in Africa is part of our commitment to developing and driving business, sports and culture on the continent. The DP World Wanderers Stadium is a solid extension of our global partnership network and one that we believe will be a catalyst for our positioning on the African continent”.

President of Lions Cricket Anne Vilas says that the 30 000-seater, multi-purpose stadium will elevate the fan experience to a whole new level, thanks to the backing of DP World.

“The extension and growth of our partnership with Imperial, now to global giant DP World, is wholeheartedly welcomed by Lions Cricket and is most certainly our honour. To have their backing of our professional teams and now Africa’s first 5G smart stadium too, certainly strengthens our line up as we strive to be bigger, better, best in all that we do for the game we love and the people we serve.”

“We are focused on building a better future together and what better way to do it than through sport, which has an intrinsic ability to inspire, motivate and unite people. We look forward to this partnership, as part of our larger commitment to Africa and her people,” Bin Sulayem added.

“Our fans will know that Lions Cricket takes winning off the field, as seriously as we do on it,” says Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright. “We have high hopes for our Pride of Jozi and are thrilled that powerhouse DP World will walk this journey with us – and honestly feel that, together, the sky’s the limit. For DP World to back what we stand and strive for as Lions Cricket, speaks to this Pride’s professionalism and absolute determination – every minute, every day, 365 days a year, for 66 years and hopefully many, many more.”
