Lions Cricket would like to formally, and warmly, welcome Asif Khan to the Pride of Jozi. Previously the Stadium Manager of HollywoodBets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban, Asif will now be based at the iconic Imperial Wanderers Stadium, taking over the reins from the retiring Cyril Martin.
With a Diploma in Sport Management from the Durban University of Technology, Asif comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience including the management of fourteen international tours in South Africa. His time as Stadium Manager at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium has seen him manage Internationals against the likes of Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, West Indies, England, Bangladesh and Australia.
“Asif has fifteen seasons of domestic cricket under his belt – experience that is rarely rivalled,” says Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright. “I’m delighted to welcome him to our Pride and with the help of Cyril Martin, I have seen first-hand how this handover is effective, efficient and educational. The iconic Imperial Wanderers Stadium is once again in safe hands with a man who lives and breathes the game of cricket. Welcome Asif!”
Asif says it’s truly an honour to follow in Mr Martin’s footsteps;
“I am excited, relaxed and feel in control thanks to Mr Martin’s having all systems perfectly in place for my takeover. It is a privilege to be at this magical stadium and I simply cannot wait for the season to get underway!”
