A STUNNING NEW INSTALLATION ERECTED AT THE GROUND.
The wall will not only recognise 100 of the greatest milestones ever to take place at the hallowed Home of Cricket, but also give supporters around the world the chance to buy a personalised plaque to commemorate their own significant moments and memories at Lord’s.
UPDATE: BUY YOUR PLAQUE NOW FOR PHASE THREE INSTALL
The first and second phase of the Father Time Wall has sold out and was installed in summer 2021 and spring 2022.
The third phase is now on sale and this part of the installation is planned for spring 2023.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The redevelopment of the Compton and Edrich Stands presented the Club with a fresh, blank canvas in the form of the wall behind the Grand and Compton Stands.
The project to utilise this space has two main aspects. Firstly, the 100 Greatest Milestones at Lord’s, voted for by the Club’s Members and staff, will showcase the Ground’s rich history, involving many of the world’s greatest cricketing nations, and give visitors the chance to experience the fabric of Lord’s and the many special moments which it has played host to.
The other is a chance for cricket supporters both near and far to have their own opportunity to exist in the rich tapestry of the Ground by purchasing a personalised plaque, which will see them feature on their very own spot on the wall for longevity.
The sale of the plaques will help fund the project, as well as 5% of the proceeds of the sale going to the MCC Foundation to support its life-enhancing projects within cricket, both at home and abroad.
Plaques are on sale now and are available for purchase here.
Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, said: “We are hugely excited about the Father Time Wall project.
“IT GIVES A STRIKING, PHYSICAL PRESENCE TO MANY OF THE GREATEST CRICKETING MOMENTS TO TAKE PLACE AT LORD’S”
“The installation will give a striking, physical presence to many of the greatest cricketing moments that have taken place at Lord’s, bringing to life the stories behind some of the most significant milestones for both the Club and the Ground.
“Whilst celebrating these many achievements, we are also giving supporters the unique opportunity to be among the first to feature on the wall, taking their own place in the Home of Cricket’s history.”
Lord’s Father Time Wall takes its name from the famous Father Time weathervane which overlooks Lord’s from its position between the Mound and Tavern Stands. It was a gift to MCC from Sir Herbert Baker in 1926, the architect of the second Grand Stand, and was moved to its current position when the stand was demolished. Father Time has overlooked many of the Ground’s greatest moments, hence the wall being named in its honour.
Mike Gatting, Chairman of the MCC World Cricket committee, said: “The beauty of Lord’s is that these magic moments continue to keep on coming. England’s two recent World Cup wins, for example, are achievements that will resonate with younger supporters, whilst older visitors will have fond memories of moments from decades past.
“This is also the first time that supporters from around the globe have the opportunity to put their own personalised mark on Lord’s, which should be viewed as an honour.”
It is anticipated that Lord’s Father Time Wall will become a must-see attraction for visitors to the Home of Cricket. The 100 milestones will be revealed early next year, prior to their physical installation in spring.
The interactive attraction will give supporters and visitors to the Ground the chance to immerse themselves in the stories behind the milestones via the Lord’s website, enhancing the wall viewing experience.
