Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members have voted to accept a 51% stake in The Hundred franchise London Spirit. Out of 6,037 votes cast at a special MCC general meeting, 4,897 were in favor.
As the owner of Lord’s Cricket Ground, the home base for London Spirit, the MCC retains the right to veto any potential investment partner if needed, according to the resolution.
The club’s future role with London Spirit will be managed by a steering group, the MCC stated on Tuesday.
The Hundred franchises have attracted significant investment interest, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) plans to sell stakes in some of its eight teams over the coming year.
Earlier this month, ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould shared that the board had been in discussions with around 100 parties interested in acquiring stakes in franchises.
