NEARLY 400 SCHOOLCHILDREN VISITED THE HOME OF CRICKET ON MONDAY 4 JULY AS PART OF THE ANNUAL SPIRIT OF CRICKET DAY HOSTED BY MCC, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CHANCE TO SHINE.

Pupils from schools across the country took part in a number of activities across the day at Lord’s, which aimed to inspire youngsters to play and enjoy cricket.

The day began with an assembly which included talks from Southern Brave’s Georgia Adams and renowned broadcaster Mark Nicholas.

Following the assembly, children began to take part in activities including cricket games and coaching on the Nursery Ground and in the Indoor Cricket Centre, tours of the Pavilion and the J.P. Morgan Media Centre, and an educational lesson on the characteristics of a cricketer.

The day was organised by Chance to Shine, a national charity that aims to inspire youngsters to play, learn and develop personal skills through cricket. MCC works with Chance to Shine to hold the Spirit of Cricket Day annually at the Lord’s.

Ricky Reynolds, MCC’s Head of Community Development said: “We are delighted to have welcomed so many young people and we hope that they thoroughly enjoyed their day at Lord’s.

“The annual event with Chance to Shine is a wonderful way to bring together and inspire the next generation to play cricket and that it is a sport for them.”
