MCC HAS TODAY ANNOUNCED THAT THE CLUB WILL BE JOINING IN WITH THE NATION’S CELEBRATIONS FOR THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE NEXT MONTH, WHICH FALLS OVER THE SAME PERIOD AS THE FIRST LV= INSURANCE MEN’S TEST MATCH BETWEEN ENGLAND AND NEW ZEALAND AT LORD’S.

Lord’s will be a sea of red, white and blue and nowhere will this be more evident than the J.P. Morgan Media Centre, as the top of the iconic building will be wrapped in a Union Jack for the occasion.

Floral decorations and bunting around the Home of Cricket will likewise be swathed in the colours of the flag. A tree will be planted in the Coronation Garden on the opening day of the match, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Project, a nationwide tree-planting initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Food plays an important part in any visit to Lord’s and is central to our Jubilee celebrations. A Lord’s Platinum Jubilee pudding has been created and will be available in all premium seating areas, whilst Afternoon Tea will be Jubilee-themed. Alongside the food, a Hendrick’s Gin and Veuve Clicquot Jubilee cocktail, exclusively for the Test match, will also be available.

MCC has worked with St. John’s Wood Society on a Big Jubilee Lunch will be held on Sunday 5 June. This event, supported by the MCC Community Department, will take the form of a children’s banquet hosted in neighbouring St. John’s Wood Church.

All spectators will be encouraged to join in the celebration by wearing red, white and blue and they will be able to get their hands on their own Lord’s Jubilee souvenir, with limited edition Platinum Jubilee caps and Union Jack balls available to purchase from the Lord’s Shop.

“AS A CLUB, WE ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR LINKS WITH THE ROYAL FAMILY AND IN PARTICULAR WITH HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN AS OUR PATRON.”

Guy Lavender, MCC Chief Executive & Secretary, said: “As soon as the match dates were announced, we were excited at being given this unique opportunity to join the celebrations. We are really looking forward to seeing Lord’s, and everyone in the Ground, decked out in red, white and blue. We expect it to be a very special long weekend for the country and for all of those coming to the Test match.

“As a Club, we are very proud of our links with the Royal Family and in particular with Her Majesty The Queen as our Patron. The Queen has made an immeasurable contribution to our country and the Commonwealth during her incredible 70-year reign. We send her our very best wishes on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.
