The Melbourne Renegades will tonight launch an exciting new two-part TV series called ‘The Renegades Recruit’, free on Kayo Sports and the club’s social media platforms.

Produced for the unsung heroes of our game, the competition offers one male Victorian community cricketer the opportunity of a lifetime – a two week, all expenses paid pre-season trip with the Renegades Academy players.

The winner will rub shoulders with the likes of Cameron Boyce, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey and Josh Lalor while learning from Renegades Head Coach David Saker with a first assignment at the NT Strike League.

Selection for the competition was open to any male cricketer in Victoria aged 18 or over who had not previously earned a place on a state contract list nor had been selected in a senior Premier Cricket team in the past two years. Nominations were lodged by community clubs or associations.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said the first episode would have fans coming back for more.

“We’re really looking forward to releasing ‘Renegades Recruit’ tonight – a fantastic fly-on-the-wall mini-documentary series. I’m sure many of us have had those ‘imagine if I could’ moments and this brings that to life – the chance to join the Renegades Academy squad on a pre-season trip,” Rosengarten said.

“We’ve left no stone unturned either – our WBBL Head Coach Simon Helmot has put the group through their paces, just as we would with our regular players. We’re hopeful that following the success of this series, we’ll be in a position to launch a Renegades Recruit progam for all our female players across Victoria to get involved as well.”

The best of this year’s players will be put through their paces throughout the two-part series, which will culminate in a final three public vote, convened as the series finale.

The public vote will determine the winner, who is guaranteed a place on the upcoming pre-season tour.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the Renegades and Cricket Victoria who have worked on this project with us. What started as a simple idea has been transformed with the power of work that has gone into the show you’ll see tonight,” Rosengarten added.
