The Melbourne Renegades will head north as part of their preparations for BBL|12, with a Renegades Academy squad to feature in the CDU Top End T20 tournament in Darwin in August.
Five teams will feature in the tournament, with both the Renegades and Stars to field Academy sides, alongside teams representing the Northern Territory, Papua New Guinea and a Cricket Australia XI.
Teams will play each other once, with the tournament to begin on August 11 and conclude with a final between the top two teams on August 21.
The Renegades were set to compete in Darwin last year, before COVID-19 disrupted those plans.
“We’re excited to have our Renegades Academy squad involved in this year’s Top End series, particularly after not being able to compete last year due to the pandemic,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.
“This series provides our players with an added development opportunity and invaluable match practice ahead of the Big Bash, whilst allowing us to invest in our Academy pathway and build a broader talent pool around our BBL-contracted players.”
The Renegades squad is expected to feature a blend of BBL-contracted players and Premier cricketers, which will be announced closer to the tournament.
Further details, including live-streaming and ticketing information, will be confirmed by NT Cricket over the coming weeks.
