The Melbourne Renegades are thrilled to announce Baker Boy will headline the Melbourne Derby at Marvel Stadium on January 14.
As part of the Big Bash League’s First Nations Round, Baker Boy will take centre stage pre-game as part of an epic night of entertainment to celebrate Indigenous culture and cricket.
The Yolngu rapper and artist has fast become a star of the Australian music scene.
Only last month, Baker Boy – whose full name is Danzal James Baker – took home five trophies at the ARIA Awards.
That included the awards for Best Solo Artist and Album of the Yearfor his album, Gela,which was released in October 2021.
Baker Boy performed at the 2021 AFL Grand Final and is known for hits such as Cool As Hell, In Control, Move, Meditjinand Wish You Well– which have more than 25 million plays combined on Spotify.
Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said:
“It’s going to be incredible to have Baker Boy performing at Marvel Stadium, in our biggest home game of the season,” Mr Rosengarten said.
“Not only is it going to be a huge clash against our cross-town rivals, but a great celebration of Indigenous culture as part of First Nations Round.
“We want this to be a showpiece event on the fixture and having an artist of Baker Boy’s calibre performing on the night certainly helps add to that.
“Providing the best entertainment experience for our fans is really important to us and we look forward to welcoming plenty of people to our games this summer for a great show on and off the field.”
