The Melbourne Renegades Champions League is set to return this summer.

This will be the sixth edition of the tournament, which will be back in 2021-22 after being impacted by COVID-19 last summer.

Registrations are now open for players to express their interest in participating.

Six teams will feature – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal – in a Country of Origin, T20 format tournament.

Squads of 15 will be chosen to represent each Country of Origin.

The competition aims to increase the number of South Asian cricketers who progress from recreational cricket to professional cricket in Australia and to showcase the talented South Asian players and match officials living in Victoria.

“We’re excited to have the Melbourne Renegades Champions League back in action again this summer,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“As a club, we are determined to have a meaningful connection with our community and this tournament certainly helps bring people together and unite them through cricket.

“It’s pleasing to again be able to provide this opportunity for our community to come together and to celebrate some great cultures and cricket.”

The tournament will be presented by a new partner, Truck Assist, this year.

“Truck Assist is pleased to partner with the Melbourne Renegades for the 2021 Champions League. As Australia’s leading Light Truck Roadside provider and Insurer, we look forward to supporting the Renegades community with this great initiative,” Truck Assist Head of Marketing, Jason Kibsgaard, said.

Players must live in Victoria and be at least 16 years of age (as of September 1, 2021) to be eligible to participate.

Trials are currently scheduled to take place in mid-October, pending Covid restrictions easing in Melbourne.

Matches are set to take place on Sundays from mid-November to mid-December.
