18-year-old leg-spinner Grace Jones has been crowned winner of the 2023 Female Renegades Recruit competition.
Following a tightly contested public vote with fellow finalists Maryam Omar and Eve Sheehan, Jones’ triumph means she will now have the opportunity to train with the Melbourne Renegades’ WBBL|09 squad as the team prepare for the upcoming season.
Jones was understandably excited with the win, saying she is “so keen to experience what it’s like to be in and around a professional group of girls playing cricket and chasing their dreams.
“Everyone back home; family, friends, Armstrong Creek, all of the lovely ladies and gentlemen there will be so pumped.”
Playing for Geelong Cricket Club and Armstrong Creek Cricket Club (Men’s) in Victorian Premier Cricket and the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association, respectively, Jones takes great pride in looking to outsmart her opponents and taking key wickets.
WBBL Head Coach Simon Helmot described Jones as “probably the most impressive bowler we had in this (year’s) Renegades Recruit.”
In addition to training with the WBBL|09 squad and help the team in their preparations for the upcoming season, the winner also receives $1,000 worth of Kookaburra merchandise and $2,000 for their local club, a 55-inch TCL LED Smart TV and more.
The Renegades would like to congratulate Maryam Omar and Eve Sheehan for making the Final 3, as well as all of our other Recruits, and everyone who applied to be a part of the program.
The 2023 Male Renegades Recruit competition is set to air on Tuesday, July 18 on the Renegades Facebook page and the 7plus app.
