Emerging all-rounder Carly Leeson has re-signed with the Melbourne Renegades for WBBL|07.

The 22-year-old will remain in red for a third season after a breakout campaign last summer.

Leeson played every game and finished as the Renegades’ equal leading wicket-taker, claiming 11 wickets.

The medium-pacer claimed a maiden WBBL player of the match award with career-best figures of 3-14 in a win against the Adelaide Strikers and showcased her all-round abilities with an unbeaten 31 off just 17 deliveries against the same opponent earlier in the tournament.

“I’m super excited to be a Renegade again this summer and can’t wait to get back into it,” Leeson said.

“Last year was really good for me in terms of getting out there, playing games consistently and having the opportunity to contribute on the field.

“Having that experience under my belt is really helpful and adds a layer of confidence for me, being out there and mixing it with the best players.

“Hopefully I can contribute to us winning games and having some success this year.”

Melbourne Renegades WBBL Head Coach Simon Helmot believes Leeson will continue to grow this season.

“Carly made some great strides forward with her cricket last year and became an important member of the Renegades line-up,” Helmot said.

“She performed consistently with the ball and has shown the versatility to deliver at different stages of the game. With the bat, Carly showed glimpses of what she can do and her ability to find the boundary, which is something she can hopefully continue to develop.

“We believe Carly’s best cricket is ahead of her and we’re excited to watch her grow.”

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said Leeson’s re-signing added to an exciting mix of talent.

“It’s great to have Carly locked in at the Renegades for a third season,” Rosengarten said.

“We’re building a really exciting, young group of talented players at the club who will only continue to develop. Carly’s certainly part of that and we’re looking forward to seeing her and the team in action this summer.”
