The Melbourne Renegades are pleased to announce that Nic Maddinson will be returning as captain for the upcoming BBL|13 season.

In his 12 seasons of BBL cricket, Maddinson has played 106 matches, with 1998 runs under his belt at an average of 20.81 and strike rate of 124.1.

Following an ACL injury sustained last season, the 31-year-old has since made a full recovery and will lead the side for a third-straight season.

Victoria’s Sheffield Shield skipper Will Sutherland has also been announced as vice-captain, his first time in the role for the Renegades.

The 24-year-old has impressed during his five-year career at the Renegades and takes the role off the back of a career-best year with the bat in BBL12, hitting 210 at an average of 30 and strike-rate of 150, while collecting seven wickets with the ball.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten said:

“Nic has been a fantastic leader for us and we’re excited to see him lead the Renegades again in BBL|13”

“Especially after missing a big chunk of last season, he’s refreshed and very excited to get out there.

“And we’re absolutely thrilled for Will, he is a much-loved figure around the club and highly respected at our organisation. It’s a great reward for his efforts and hard work over the journey.

“He’ll be a great asset to Nic and will help lead this group forward.”

The Renegades will kick off their BBL|13 season this Friday against the Sydney Sixers at the SCG at 7:15pm.
