The Melbourne Renegades have announced Hayley Matthews will take the captaincy reins for the WBBL|09 season.
Matthews, who captains the West Indies in all formats of international cricket, will lead the Renegades for the season in place of Sophie Molineux, who will miss WBBL|09 as she recovers from an ACL injury.
This will be Matthews’ second season in red following a successful WBBL|08 where she hit a team-high 253 runs and took nine wickets.
She also captained the side for two games last season following Molineux’s injury, where she won both.
“While it is disappointing to not have Sophie for the WBBL|09 season, we’re lucky to have such an experienced leader in Hayley ready to step up,” said Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten.
“As the West Indian captain, Hayley was the obvious choice to take over in Sophie’s absence, and impressed us last season when she led the side at the back-end of WBBL|08.
The Renegades can also confirm that they have signed South Australian Emma De Broughe as a replacement player for Tayla Vlaeminck.
The Renegades will kick off their WBBL|09 season this Friday against the Brisbane Heat at the CitiPower Centre from 3:00PM.
