The Melbourne Renegades have added batting firepower ahead of BBL|14, signing big-hitting Queenslander and reigning BBL champion Josh Brown.

Brown joins the Renegades on a two-year deal, tying the explosive opener to the Club until at least the end of BBL|15.

Hailing from Brisbane’s northern suburbs, Brown has proven himself a prolific run-scorer and match-winner and is eager to carry his strong form south to Melbourne to help steer the Renegades’ push for success.

“I’ve enjoyed my time with the Heat, they gave me my opportunity, for which I’ll always be grateful and have cherished memories including winning a BBL Championship last season,” Brown said.

“But I am extremely excited for a new challenge and hopefully achieve the same success with the Renegades.

“It’s a young group with a lot of talent and firepower, especially in that batting group. I can’t wait to partner with the likes of (Jake) Fraser-McGurk and (Will) Sutherland and see what we can do.”

Brown’s addition bolsters the Renegades’ batting order and adds an extra layer of power. The prospect of Brown partnering with rising star Fraser-McGurk at the top of the innings is sure to get Renegades fans excited for the new season.

Very few can claim to have made a bigger and swifter impact in the BBL than Brown.

In just 23 games across two seasons with the Heat, Brown has amassed 624 runs with an eye-watering 149.64 strike rate.

His power-hitting was on show on the biggest stage when Brown bludgeoned a 41-ball ton – the second-fastest in BBL history – in January’s BBL|13 semi-final. He’d go on to score 140 from 57 deliveries, finishing with a league-best 12 sixes in the incredible innings.

“We are extremely excited to have Josh join our squad,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“We’ve identified a clear role for Josh in our batting order which will have a new look this year.

“Josh possesses a good balance of aggression and composure, which we all witnessed in the recent BBL finals series. We’ve been watching Josh for a while so his strong season and BBL finals series were no surprise.
