Melbourne Renegades all-time leading wicket taker, Kane Richardson, has extended his contract with the club for a further three seasons.

Already committed for BBL|11, the new deal covers the BBL|12, BBL|13 and BBL|14 seasons ensuring the fast bowler will remain with the Renegades until at least the end of the 2024/25 summer.

Richardson has played 43 games for the club since joining ahead of the BBL|07 season.

He’s picked up 61 wickets, was a member of the BBL|08 title-winning team and was named in the club’s Team of the Decade earlier this year.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Renegades and I’m thrilled to extend my contract with the club,” Richardson said.

“I love spending time in Melbourne, it’s a great playing group to be around and I love playing in front of the Renegades fans.

“The playing group is determined to get back into finals contention and with a new coach coming on board and a talented playing list, I’m excited to see what we can achieve in the coming seasons.”

Richardson led a new-look Renegades attack last season featuring several young players. He ended the campaign as the club’s second leading wicket taker with 15 scalps, despite missing the final three matches.

“Kane is a world-class white ball bowler who has led our attack very well since joining the club,” Renegades List Manager Andrew Lynch said.

“He bowls in the most challenging overs at the start and end of the innings and also took on the surge overs this season.

“He is a consistent and reliable performer who provides excellent leadership around the playing group.”

Alongside Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh and James Pattinson, Richardson will form part of an accomplished senior core for the Renegades new coach to build the squad around.

“Kane has been a fantastic ambassador for our club for a long period of time now,” Renegades General Manager David Lever said.

“He’s a fierce competitor, highly skilled and an excellent person who will continue to provide support for Aaron Finch and our new coach. He continues to share his vast international experience with our young bowling group and will be instrumental in their ongoing development and our future success.

“Kane is a fan favourite and we’re delighted to secure this long-term deal so our members and supporters can continue to enjoy his performances for many seasons to come.”
