The Melbourne Renegades are pleased to announce that Australian leg spinner Georgia Wareham has extended her contract until the end of the WBBL|10 season.

Wareham is a founding member of the club’s Weber WBBL side, having first signed on as a 16-year-old in 2015 – then the competition’s youngest player.

The product of Mortlake in Victoria’s Western District, Wareham will play her 65th game for the Renegades in their season opener on October 20 at the CitiPower Centre.

Wareham is currently in action for Australia in the series against the West Indies, going head-to-head with Renegades teammate Hayley Matthews.

In addition to Wareham’s commitment, bowler Rhiann O’Donnell and batter Erica Kershaw have also signed with the club and complete the club’s roster for the upcoming season.

Kershaw and O’Donnell played nine and ten games respectively for the club in last year’s competition.

Wareham said the club held a special place in her heart.

“It has been a great journey to be on since I was 16 and I’ve really enjoyed the culture, the group and the support we get at the Renegades throughout the year,” Wareham said.

“In many ways the Renegades were the early platform for me going on to play international cricket. I’ve worked through injuries during that time as well and it’s nice to be able to repay the faith that the club has shown in me and help push the team towards a maiden WBBL title.”

Wareham sits fifth all-time among the club’s top wicket takers with 34.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said he was delighted to see Wareham continue her long association with the club.

“Georgia brings a depth of international experience to her cricket now which is important for our group. Her bowling is world-class, and she has become important player in our mid to lower order with the bat. She can steer the back end of a batting innings with her leadership and experience and we’re looking forward to more of that over the next two seasons,” Rosengarten said.

“We’re really happy to see Rhiann and Erica both back at the Renegades as well. Both players have been involved with the Renegades a number of times over their careers and they both add to the depth of our squad which is critical as the competition heats up.”
