The Melbourne Renegades WBBL|06 campaign is scheduled to get underway on October 17.
The 14-game home and away season remains but the Renegades will need to wait until the eve of the finals to play their first match in Melbourne.
All clubs will be in Melbourne that week and the Renegades will play the first of three ‘home’ matches at the CitiPower Centre, Junction Oval on November 19.
The Renegades will take on Melbourne Stars at the CitiPower Centre, Junction Oval in the club’s final match of the home and away season on Sunday November 22.
That match is one of five Renegades games to be broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox Cricket.
Teams will play at neutral locations regularly throughout the season with the majority of matches to be played in Sydney between late October and mid-November.
Melbourne Renegades General Manager David Lever said:
“The difficulty of piecing together a fixture amid the ongoing uncertainty obviously presents a significant challenge.
“We’re glad the League has maintained the length of the home and away season, giving our players the maximum opportunity to showcase their talent.
“The model ensures there is some flexibility and provides a strong broadcast outcome across the competition.
“While you’d always love to be playing more games in Melbourne, these are unique circumstances and we understand the rationale.
“Sadly this also means we won’t be hosting a match in Ballarat this season. We have tremendous support in Ballarat from fans, local clubs and the City of Ballarat and our plan is to return in WBBL|07.”
QUESTIONS?
Why are there so many WBBL games in Sydney?
By establishing a ‘hub’ in Sydney, the League creates greater flexibility should games need to be re-scheduled amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. Unfortunately the knock-on effect means we won’t host a match in Melbourne until the final week of the home and away season. Our match in Ballarat also won’t take place this season but we’re planning to be back in WBBL|07.
Will crowds be permitted at matches?
We hope so!! Ultimately we’ll be guided by the State Government and health authorities as to whether crowds are allowed to attend and to what level. We’ll have plans in place to ensure we’re prepared for a range of scenarios.
Will international players feature?
At this stage we are planning to have international players feature in both the WBBL and BBL season. We’re also in the process of securing some fresh local talent which we’ll keep you across in the lead up to the season.
What about memberships?
We’re pleased to announce a price freeze on all membership packages for the upcoming season. Memberships will be on-sale Monday 7 September with Mates Rates pricing available for a month following the launch. Some exciting new inclusions have been added to our BBL|10 packages – stay tuned!
