Melbourne Renegades batsman Beau Webster has been named the club’s BBL Player of the Season after a breakout campaign.Webster played every game throughout BBL|09 and posted 425 runs at an average of 42.5 and with a strike rate of 132. He was sixth highest scorer in BBL|09.
The 26 -year-old notched three half centuries and smashed 17 sixes (7th highest overall) and took eight catches.
“While the season didn’t go to plan from a team point of view, it was great to be able lock down a role for the side and produce a consistent season with the bat,” Webster said.
“Maxy Klinger was great for me as coach and being around a group of accomplished experienced players has really helped develop my game.
“Team success is what we’re all after and I have no doubt this group will rebound in BBL|10.
“It’s an honour to win an award voted on by our members. Their support has never waivered and we’ll be out to repay them next season.”
After being in and out of the side last year, Webster became a mainstay in BBL|09, proving a reliable run scorer in the middle order.
“One of the big positives to emerge from the season was Beau Webster’s form in the middle order,” Renegades Coach Michael Klinger said.
“We gave him the opportunity to cement a spot for himself and to his credit he took his chances and really established himself as a key player in the side.
“During the season he demonstrated he can mix big hitting with intelligent stroke play and he was also excellent in the field.
“Beau showed a keenness to take on board feedback from the coaches, work on their recommendations and continually improved his game.”
