The Melbourne Renegades have secured another emerging Victorian prospect with Mitch Perry signing on for the next two seasons.
The 20-year-old fast bowler made his Sheffield Shield debut last week after earning his first one-day domestic cap last season.
“I’ve grown up watching the Big Bash so it’s great to get an opportunity with the Melbourne Renegades,” Perry said.
“The chance to spend some time learning from someone like Kane Richardson, who is one of the best white-ball fast bowlers in the country, will be great for me, as well as the opportunity to learn from those other experienced players in the squad.
“The club has an exciting group of young players who I’ve spent a bit of time with in recent years and I’m looking forward to working hard alongside those guys over the coming seasons.”
Perry joins Will Sutherland, Mackenzie Harvey, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Zak Evans on the club’s playing roster providing a strong group of talented players aged 21 or younger.
“We’ve got some great experience in our squad but I’m also excited that we’ve got some of the best young Victorian talent and that has been a key part of our list strategy,” Renegades Coach Michael Klinger said.
“I’ve spoken regularly with Mick Lewis, the Victorian bowling coach and he’ll be joining our set up this season, and he’s a big fan of Mitch.
“He’s got some great skills with the new ball and we’re going to keep developing him through the middle and death overs as well to make sure he can bowl in any situation.”
Renegades squad (to date): Noor Ahmad (AFG), Cameron Boyce, Zak Evans, Aaron Finch (c), Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Mackenzie Harvey, Jon Holland, Shaun Marsh, Mohammad Nabi (AFG), James Pattinson, Mitch Perry, Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, Imran Tahir (RSA), Beau Webster.
