The Melbourne Stars have clinched the re-signing of explosive all-rounder Hilton Cartwright for a further two seasons, securing his services until the end of KFC BBL|13.

The big-hitting Western Australian joined the Stars ahead of BBL|09 and has continued to be an integral part of the team, highlighted by his big-hitting capabilities including an enormous 120m six last season – one of the biggest sixes ever recorded at the MCG.

After reaching the Final in his first season at the Stars, Cartwright said he was looking forward to helping the team return to winning ways.

“I feel extremely lucky to be a part of the Stars and to continue my Big Bash journey with some of the most talented players in the competition,” Cartwright said.

“We’re really fortunate to have real depth in the squad with the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa being some of Australia’s best players. I’m excited to see what this season has in store and can’t wait to get cracking!”

Stars BBL Head Coach David Hussey was full of praise for Cartwright and is eager to utilise his versatility once again in KFC BBL|11.

“Hilton has been a great addition to our squad and it was a no-brainer for us to extend his contract. He’s really team-orientated on and off the field and has the ability to bat anywhere in the order which really strengthens our game plan, especially during the crunch moments,” Hussey said.

“With big match experience with both bat and ball, Hilton is a great asset to the team and someone who will continue mentoring and being a leader for our younger players in particular.”

Melbourne Stars Interim General Manager Blair Crouch said the Stars squad was shaping up well ahead of a massive summer of Big Bash.

“Extending Hilton’s time with the Melbourne Stars follows the recent BBL signings of Sam Rainbird and Joe Burns as we build out our list for the upcoming season. With the calibre of players already committed, we’re confident the Stars will be a force to be reckoned with again this season,” Crouch said.

“This season is looking really positive on both WBBL and BBL fronts and over the coming weeks we are excited to announce further signings.”

Catch the Melbourne Stars in their BBL|11 opening game of the season on December 5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Sydney Sixers. Stars will then host their first home game on December 10 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground when they take on Sydney Thunder.
