South African superstar all-rounder Marizanne Kapp will be a Melbourne Star until at least the end of WBBL|12 after signing a three-year deal with the club.
Kapp has made over 240 appearances for South Africa, having represented her country in all three formats.
The 34-year-old has also amassed over 180 matches of T20 domestic cricket, spending time in the WPL, the Hundred and WBBL stints at the Sixers, Thunder, and Scorchers.
She was selected by the Thunder at Pick 1 in the first ever WBBL Overseas Player Draft last year.
“Marizanne is one of the best all-rounders in the world with an outstanding record at both domestic and international level,” said Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch.
“As well as her talents with both bat and ball she will add invaluable experience to our young squad in our quest to be among the challengers for WBBL|10.”
Kapp has proven herself on the biggest stage, including the WBBL|07 Final, where she was named player of the match. Kapp has taken 275 wickets in her 287 T20 matches with an economy rate of 5.61 and a strike rate of 20.84.
“I’ve been working with JB (Jonathan Batty) for a couple of years and then obviously working with Meg was a big factor for me moving, I like they way they work.” Kapp said.
“I feel like the first couple of Big Bashs, we played a lot more in the bigger stadiums, I absolutely love bowling at the MCG.
“I feel like the women’s game deserves to be played on those big grounds so I can’t wait to get out there.”
