Melbourne Stars fans will once again have the opportunity to get up close and personal with their heroes as the BBL returns to the CitiPower Centre in 2022/23.
After a sold-out match last season, this year’s event will have a distinct Christmas flavour, to be played on 23rd December against the Perth Scorchers.
The event provided an economic boost for the local area and it is hoped that this year’s event will again showcase the best of the CitiPower Centre and the St Kilda area.
Revised start times will also feature throughout the Stars fixture in BBL|12, with no match to begin later than 7:15pm and two Friday twilight games at the MCG starting at 5:05pm and 6:30pm.
Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch welcomed the return to the home of Victorian cricket.
“Last year’s inaugural BBL match at the CitiPower Centre was a highlight of the calendar and we expect demand to be enormous once again.
“Being such an intimate venue, it’s a great opportunity for Melbourne Stars members and fans to get as close as they can to elite T20 cricket and experience the Big Bash in a different way to our home at the MCG.
“We have listened to our members and fans and worked with Cricket Australia to provide more family friendly start times and it’s pleasing to see games starting at an earlier time this season to allow as many families as possible to get to the MCG.”
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said:
“The CitiPower Centre made a successful BBL debut last year and we’ll take that recipe for success forward into BBL|12.
One of the benefits as a boutique venue is you do end up being closer to the action and closer the players than perhaps anywhere else in the competition.
It makes for a fantastic day of summer entertainment for the family and we can’t wait.”
