Five members of the Melbourne Stars BBL|13 squad will be in action at the 2023 World Cup including all three of our BBL Draft selections.

Glenn Maxwell

This will be Glenn Maxwell’s third One Day World Cup. Maxwell was a member of the 2015 World Cup winning team and took a wicket in the final at the MCG.

The all-rounder has a high score at the World Cup of 102 from 53 balls in 2015 against Sri Lanka.

Maxwell’s off spin could prove crucial given the nature of the wickets in India.

Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis was part of the Australian squad for the 2019 World Cup playing eight matches and taking seven wickets.

His ability with bat and ball will be crucial in a nation where he has excelled in T20 cricket in the IPL.

Stoinis has played 64 ODIs for his country and scored 1400 runs.

Harry Brook

Harry Brook could feature for England after making his ODI debut in January 2023.

The batter has a high score of 80 from six matches.

The current champions are looking to go back-to-back following their first Cricket World Cup title in 2019.  England had been runner-up three times previously before their breakthrough victory.

Haris Rauf

Haris Rauf is ready for his first opportunity at the Cricket World Cup. The right arm fast bowler made his international debut in 2020 and has best figures of 5/18 in ODIs.

Rauf comes into the tournament in magnificent form in the recent Asia Cup.

In the 2019 World Cup, Pakistan finished fifth in the group stage, equal on points with New Zealand but missed out on a place in the semi-finals due to net run rate. Pakistan is currently the second ranked ODI team in the ICC rankings.

Usama Mir

It has been 31 years since Pakistan’s sole World Cup title in 1992 and Usama Mir will be looking to be a part of the next Pakistan World Cup winning squad.

He is also set to make his World Cup debut and took two wickets in yesterday’s warm-up game against Australia.

The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup begins on Thursday October 5 with New Zealand taking on England.  Australia will face India for their opening clash of the tournament on Sunday October 8 at 7.30pm AEDT.
