The Melbourne Stars can confirm a member of the BBL squad’s support staff has returned a positive test for COVID-19 this afternoon.
The staff member is currently isolating. All Melbourne Stars players and staff who been in contact with the positive case have undertaken PCR tests earlier this afternoon.
The results of these tests will not be received in sufficient time for tonight’s match against the Perth Scorchers at Marvel Stadium to proceed.
The League will advise a new date for the match as soon as possible.
Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said “we are understandably disappointed for our members, fans, partners and broadcasters that tonight’s match against the Scorchers cannot go ahead, but the broader health of our players, staff and the community comes first.”
“The staff member is being managed by Melbourne Stars medical staff in consultation with Cricket Australia and we look forward to them being able to return to the group in due course.”
“We have key home matches scheduled on January 2 and 3 in Melbourne so we hope to have more clarity through testing over the next 24-48 hours,” Crouch added.
Ticket holders for tonight’s match will be contacted directly regarding the refund process.
