The Melbourne Stars will begin their Weber WBBL|07 campaign in Tasmania following confirmation of the opening rounds of fixtures from Cricket Australia.

Under the revised schedule, the Stars will headline the first match of the season against the Sydney Sixers on Thursday 14 October under lights at Blundstone Arena.

The Stars will play a further two matches in Hobart before travelling to Launceston where they’ll face the Brisbane Heat at Invermay Park before clashes with the Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes at University of Tasmania Stadium.

Last year’s finalists will be looking for a strong start as they hope to emulate last season’s success and go on to lift the trophy.

The squad is scheduled to travel to Tasmania at the end of next week to complete their quarantine period before the season commences.

Australian players Meg Lanning and Annabel Sutherland will link up with the Stars squad following the conclusion of the upcoming CommBank Women’s ODI Series against India.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said the squad was looking forward to arriving in Tasmania.

“Given the various challenges that exist at the moment, I’d like to thank the Tasmanian Government for supporting the Weber WBBL and the Stars in hosting the first stage of the competition to get off to a strong start in Hobart and Launceston,” Crouch said.

“Just as we did in 2020, our team and support staff have been preparing themselves for any and every scenario and we’ll be ready to go come that first match against the Sixers. There is real excitement about getting the season up and running and being back in front of fantastic TV audiences on Seven and Foxtel at home in Melbourne.”

Earlier this week the Stars confirmed the signings of Anna Lanning and 17-year old pair Georgia Gall and Rhys McKenna and the club expects to announce its international signings in the next fortnight.
