This Friday, the Melbourne Stars will celebrate the contribution of the late Shane Warne at their first game at the MCG for BBL|12.
Warne played 15 games for the Stars in BBL|01 and BBL|02, after coming out of retirement to help kickstart the BBL.
He was a key figure for the club during its formative years and helped attract members, fans and big name players to the Stars.
Warne’s impact on the club will be celebrated in a number of ways as outlined below.
Pre-Match
• Every player will have Warne’s number 23 incorporated into their kit
• One of Shane Warne’s playing tops will be displayed on a plinth with his cap
During-Match
• Standing ovation to take place after the 23rd ball of the game
Other Elements
• Shane Warne’s playing top will be permanently hung in the changerooms as a tribute
• Warne’s family has been invited into the changerooms after the match and will be part of the matchday presentation
• Social media tributes throughout the week
• The Melbourne Stars will permanently retire the number 23
