More WBBL matches on TV, an earlier start to the BBL season and an inaugural BBL match at the CitiPower Centre are the key headlines following the release of the Melbourne Stars Rebel WBBL|06 and KFC BBL|10 fixtures today.
The Stars will open their WBBL campaign in Perth on the weekend of 17-18 October with matches against the Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers. The Stars’ season will then be played at a number of interstate venues, before culminating in a bumper weekend of matches on 21-22 November, which will see all eight clubs descend on Melbourne to fight it out for a place in the Finals.
The WBBL|06 season is scheduled with more matches than ever before televised live across Australia by the Seven Network and Foxtel, with seven of the Stars’ fourteen home and away games to be broadcast.
The tenth season of the BBL will start earlier this summer, with the Stars’ opening match to be played at the MCG on Saturday 5 December against the Sydney Thunder.
The Stars will then travel to the Gabba to play the Brisbane Heat, before returning to Melbourne to play the Adelaide Strikers – their inaugural home game at the CitiPower Centre. This match will be a great opportunity for Melbourne Stars members to get closer to the action in an atmosphere akin to the Bushfire Bash charity match held at the venue last season.
The much-anticipated MCG Melbourne Derby against the Renegades will take place on Sunday 10 January, with the away Derby scheduled for Saturday 16 January at Marvel Stadium.
The earlier start to BBL|10 provides extra time to schedule the 14-game season, more prime-time matches on Seven and Foxtel, and allows all home and away fixtures to be completed before school goes back for 2021. The new BBL Finals series which debuted last season will remain, with the Final to take place on Saturday 6 February 2021.
Melbourne Stars General Manager Nick Cummins said:
“We’re excited to announce the Melbourne Stars’ W/BBL fixtures today to kick off the first stage of planning for an action-packed summer of Big Bash cricket.
“With more Stars WBBL matches scheduled to be broadcast than ever before, it provides a great opportunity to continue to showcase what is the world’s best cricket league for women – and inspire young girls and boys to play the game.
“Scheduling fixtures in the midst of a pandemic is not an easy task, and whilst it wasn’t feasible to play regionally this season, it has presented opportunities to create new experiences for our valued Stars members – the BBL home match at the CitiPower Centre being one of those.
“Over the next few months we’ll confirm our playing lists for the upcoming season and we look forward to sharing this news with our Stars members and fans as it unfolds.”
Melbourne Stars memberships will go on sale on 7 September. You can register your interest in joining the Stars this season by filling out your details here.
