Commercial calendar kicks off with Lord’s event.
PCA members and commercial partners convened at Lord’s on Tuesday morning for the PCA Business Seminar, which marked the beginning of the Association’s 2022 commercial events calendar.
The annual event welcomed an audience of 53 representing 18 different PCA commercial partners to the iconic setting of the J.P. Morgan Media Centre in north west London, bridging the gap between cricket and business.
Former Leicestershire player and founder of the Sporting Edge performance consultancy Jeremy Snape hosted the discussion which focussed on the topic of resilience. Snape was joined by two players with a wealth of playing experience on both the international and domestic stage in Ian Bell and Jade Dernbach.
The trio were introduced by PCA Chief Executive Rob Lynch, who offered an update on the PCA’s progress in a number of key areas for the business, and the 45-minute discussion between the three former players was followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
All attendees were also given the opportunity to build their networks over breakfast and hot drinks both before and after the seminar, before the event formally came to a close at 11.30am.
Former England international and five-time Ashes winner Ian Bell said: “It was a great morning at the PCA Business Seminar. It’s never a straight road in cricket, things can look smooth from the outside but you go through many highs and lows during your career. I’ve been sharing some of my stories of resilience and Jeremy is brilliant at relating those to the business world.
“PCA events are always fantastic and it’s important to make the most of these networking opportunities. Speaking to people from many different backgrounds and businesses is so beneficial for a former player like myself coming out of the game.”
PCA Chief Executive Rob Lynch said: “Our partners are so important to us and support us in many different ways, so to welcome them to Lord’s for the PCA Business Seminar at our first commercial event of the year was really special.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to update our partners on where their investment goes and what sort of work they are supporting us with. I’d like to offer a heartfelt thank you to our partners – without their support we wouldn’t be able to operate and continue to provide a high level of service to current and former professional cricketers.”
Kelliher Insurance Group Head of Marketing Suzanne Hounslow said: “It was a wonderful event at Lord’s today and a fascinating session with Jeremy from Sporting Edge – there were some very interesting insights into how resilience built through professional sport can cross over into business.
“We’ve been partnering with the PCA for a number of years now, and events like the Business Seminar show why the longevity of that partnership is so important to us.”
