Mirwais Ashraf is poised to extend his tenure as Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for an additional three years. This extension was confirmed by a senior board official who spoke anonymously to a media outlet.
Ashraf, who was appointed ACB Chairman in 2021, was originally set to complete his term in August 2024. However, he is now seeking a three-year extension.
The official said, “Due to his performance over the past three years, the Taliban government has extended Mirwais Ashraf’s term as Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board by an additional three years.”
“Stability is the key to our success, and we strive to value it. Over the last three years, we have had one Chairman, one CEO, and one coach. We have only changed our captain once because we believe that to develop as a cricketing nation, we need to focus more on stability,” he added.
It has been reported that Afghanistan’s Prime Minister has approved the extension of Ashraf’s term. Initially appointed as the head of the board, Ashraf was later elected to continue as Chairman.
Under the ACB’s constitution and international norms, elections are scheduled for December, during which a new Chairman will be elected through a transparent voting process at the AGM (Annual General Meeting).
