Afghanistan‘s star all-rounder, Mohammad Nabi, is set to retire from One-Day International (ODI) cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the announcement, with ACB CEO Naseeb Khan stating that Nabi had informed the board of his decision several months ago.
“Nabi has expressed his desire to retire from ODIs after the Champions Trophy, and we fully respect his decision,” Khan said. “He will continue to play T20 cricket after that, which is the current plan.”
Nabi, regarded as one of Afghanistan’s greatest cricketers, has made a lasting impact since his debut in 2009. Known as ‘The President’ for his leadership on and off the field, he has scored 3,549 runs in 165 ODIs, averaging 27.30, and taken 171 wickets.
His career highlights include a half-century on his debut against Scotland and a recent 82-run performance against Bangladesh in the ongoing ODI series in Sharjah.
Although Nabi retired from Test cricket in 2019, he has remained an integral part of Afghanistan’s limited-overs side.
