Focus on raising cricket standards
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi chaired the 80th meeting of the PCB Board of Governors in Lahore, where members gathered to review measures to improve the quality of cricket across the country, reported 24newshdtv channel.
The session brought together Board of Governors members including Anwar Ghani, Zaheer Abbas, Sajjad Ali Khokhar, Zafarullah, Tanveer Ahmed, Ismail Qureshi, Tariq Sarwar, and others. Senior PCB executives such as COO Sameer Ahmed, PSL CEO Salman Naseer, and heads of international cricket, domestic cricket, women’s cricket, media and communications, high performance centres, HR, and the legal department also attended.
International performance and grassroots development
A central part of the meeting focused on improving Pakistan’s performance in international cricket. The board received detailed briefings on grassroots-level programs designed to identify and develop young talent, while also putting special emphasis on the promotion of women’s cricket nationwide.
Domestic cricket reforms were also tabled, with the aim of ensuring stronger structures to provide emerging players with more competitive opportunities.
Investment in high performance centres
The Board of Governors (BoG) reviewed plans for upgrading High Performance Centres across the country, recognizing their role in nurturing elite athletes and preparing future stars for international competition. These facilities are expected to serve as a backbone for long-term talent development in Pakistan.
Governance, financial discipline, and anti-corruption measures
The meeting also addressed governance and financial matters, approving updated financial rules of the PCB and reappointing auditors for the current financial year. These steps aim to reinforce transparency and accountability in board operations.
In addition, the BoG approved procedural changes to adopt the Global Anti-Corruption Code and introduced new measures for the scrutiny of cricket clubs. These reforms were seen as vital steps in upholding integrity and good governance in Pakistan cricket.
The session also ratified the decisions taken in the PCB’s 78th and 79th Board of Governors meetings, ensuring continuity in policy implementation.
What the reforms mean for Pakistan cricket
While largely administrative in nature, the reforms discussed at the 80th BoG meeting carry clear implications for Pakistan cricket’s future. Grassroots initiatives and investment in women’s cricket are expected to widen the talent pool, while upgraded High Performance Centres will give players access to world-class training facilities. Stronger domestic structures and stricter governance rules also promise to create a more competitive, transparent, and professional environment—changes that fans will hope translate into improved performances on the international stage.
