The visitors registered an eight-wicket victory over India in the first T20 international at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Put to bat first, India could only score a paltry 124/7 in their quota of 20 overs. On the other hand, England ensured they won the game with more than four overs to spare owing to a strong all-round performance.

We take you through some of the talking points of the first T20I.

Rohit Sharma rested for the initial games

At the toss, Kohli announced that the Indian vice-captain was rested for the first T20I international. Rohit has been in continuous cricketing action since the third Test in Australia followed by the four Tests against England.

He will look to come back stronger after a break.

Shreyas Iyer scores a half-century

While wickets kept falling from one end, it was Shreyas Iyer who held one end of the crease. Coming out at number five, he went on to register his highest individual T20I score of 67 (48) before losing his wicket in the final over.

Jofra and Co. restrict India

Jofra Archer got KL Rahul bowled in his very first over to start with a wicket-maiden. He later accounted for two more scalps in the form of Hardik and Shardul to finish with 3/23.

The likes of Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, and Ben Stokes also picked a wicket each.

Hardik Pandya resumes bowling

Before the start of the match, Hardik Pandya announced that he would be bowling in the series. Even though he couldn’t pick a wicket, the all-rounder bowled well conceding 13 runs in his two overs.

Jason Roy dominates at the top-order

Opening the innings, Jason Roy was off to a flier start as he took on Yuzvendra Chahal in the third over. He fell short of a fifty after Washington Sundar trapped him in front of the stumps for 49 (32).

However, Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan ensured England crossed the finish line with ease.

The second T20I is scheduled to take place at the same ground on Sunday from 7 PM.
