New CEO leads Cricket Scotland appointments

Cricket Scotland, formerly the Scottish Cricket Union, is the governing body for cricket in Scotland, based at the National Cricket Academy in Edinburgh. Established in 1908 and restructured in 2001, it became an ICC Associate Member in 1994. The organization includes three sub-associations: the East of Scotland Cricket Association, Western District Cricket Union, and Aberdeenshire Cricket Association.

Cricket Scotland is today pleased to announce a series of key senior appointments within the organisation, including the arrival of Pete Fitzboydon as Interim Chief Executive.

Pete joins on a six-month fixed term contract, taking over from Gordon Arthur with immediate effect. He brings to Cricket Scotland extensive experience from several leadership roles within British sport.

A former Chief Executive of London Sport, Pete has also served as Interim Chief Executive of both Badminton England and Cycling UK, while his most recent role has been as a consultant to the RFU, focusing on improvement of governance standards within professional rugby.

“I am delighted to be joining Cricket Scotland during this important time for the sport,” said Pete.

“There remains a great deal of work to be done to build on the progress to date and deliver on our commitments to anti-racism and EDI within the sport, whilst continuing to rebuild trust within the Scottish cricketing community. I am also keen to support the ongoing enhancement of Cricket Scotland as an organisation, to ensure it flourishes for years to come.

“We are about to begin an exciting domestic cricket season, while our Men’s and Women’s national squads have crucial World Cup qualifying campaigns on the horizon. It promises to be an extremely busy summer, and I am really looking forward to getting out and about around the country to meet people from all communities who share my love of cricket.”

Pete will head up the Senior Leadership Team which has been enhanced by the appointment of Kash Taank as Head of EDI. He has joined on a secondment from his role as Sports Equalities Manager with Glasgow Life.

Kash is widely recognised as a leading authority on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, with over twenty-five years’ experience primarily within local government, including spells at Sport England and Lothian NHS. He was also part of the bid team that secured the Glasgow Commonwealth Games for 2014.

The recruitment process for the specialised role of Head of ‘Changing The Boundaries’ is now close to conclusion. Once appointed, this individual will lead on completing the work recommended by the ‘Changing The Boundaries’ report, including work around the referrals process. Cricket Scotland appreciates the continued support of sportscotland in the funding and recruitment around some of the organisation’s key senior roles.

With a new disciplinary framework and process in place for the 2023 domestic season, Cricket Scotland is also pleased to announce the appointment of Declan Ritchie as Conduct in Sport Manager.

Declan, who studied Common Law at Arden University and is currently studying for an accelerated Scots Law LLB, will be responsible for managing the disciplinary and complaints process, as well as managing the new Conduct in Sport Panel and supporting training around Anti-corruption and Anti-doping.

The recruitment process to appoint a permanent Cricket Scotland Chief Executive will commence during the summer, with the target date of 1 December 2023 for the position to be filled as per the Action Plan drawn up following the publication of the ‘Changing The Boundaries’ report.
