Interest in the upcoming international summer has spiked on the back of the recent BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS heroics.
Tickets for the BLACKCAPS three-match Test series against England, starting at the end of this month, are in strong demand following New Zealand’s unprecedented series win against India on the subcontinent.
The three-nil winning margin for the BLACKCAPS, who started arriving back in New Zealand last night, has kept alive their chances of qualifying for the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
The first four days of the second Test in Wellington have almost sold out, only 450 tickets remain on the third day of the opening Test in Christchurch, and about 50 percent of tickets have sold for the final Test in Hamilton.
NZC chief executive Scott Weenink said the impact of the twin BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS success stories were clearly playing a part in the public appetite for the game.
“Cricket in New Zealand is riding a wave created by both the WHITE FERNS and the BLACKCAPS and I don’t think the combined force of those teams’ accomplishments can be underestimated,” he said.
“It’s great to see those wins boost the interest in the game back here, something we’re seeing first-hand not only at the box-office but also in the numbers turning out this week to meet the WHITE FERNS on their ICC T20 World Cup Trophy Tour.”
Mr Weenink said the WHITE FERNS T20 World Cup trophy would be displayed on-site at all the WHITE FERNS international venues this summer.
