Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Nick Hockley has announced that he will step down at the end of the 2024-25 cricket season in March 2025, concluding a five-year tenure marked by key achievements and strategic reforms.

According to a report, Hockley’s departure follows discussions with Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird and other directors, who indicated he was not considered a long-term option for the role. They allowed him to leave on amicable terms.

In a statement, Hockley said, “This was a difficult decision. However, following what promises to be a blockbuster summer and with our five-year strategic plan well progressed, this is the right time to pursue another challenge, while giving the board plenty of time to find its next CEO to build on the strong foundations now in place.”

Hockley will continue in his role through the 2024-25 season, which includes India’s upcoming five-Test series against Australia. He stressed that his focus remains on a smooth transition and supporting the board’s succession process.

“This is not the time for goodbyes, as I remain completely focused on the season ahead and supporting the board on succession and a smooth transition,” he stated.

During his tenure, Hockley navigated Cricket Australia through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, while overseeing international successes, grassroots growth, and commercial expansion.

Cricket Australia is expected to begin the search for his successor, with candidates such as CA’s Head of Cricket James Allsopp, former CA Head of Broadcast and Commercial Stephanie Beltrame, former women’s captain Belinda Clark, and Australian Cricketers’ Association CEO Todd Greenberg among the leading contenders.
