The New Zealand national cricket team, known as the Black Caps, made their Test debut in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth nation to play Test cricket. After waiting 26 years for their first Test win against the West Indies in 1956, they also played their first ODI in 1972–73 against Pakistan. New Zealand are the inaugural World Test Championship champions (2021) and have won the ICC Champions Trophy (2000). They have reached the Cricket World Cup final twice and the T20 World Cup final once.

An Over-50s Quad Series involving New Zealand, Australia, USA and New Zealand “A” will be held in Blenheim in March 2024.

The tournament will be played at Horton Park over five days (March 13–18), with each team playing each other once before a finals round.

The Quad Series will come at the end of a very busy Over-50s season that also includes the national Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) in Queenstown in January, and ‘NZ A’ and ‘NZ B’ teams competing in the Australian National Championships in December.

Australia and the USA will also play other matches in the South Island during their tour; the full schedule to be announced in due course.

New Zealand Over-50s Cricket Director, Jim Morrison, spoke to the jam-packed schedule of cricket.

“This Quad Series will be the culmination of a bumper season, and we are going to do our best to make it a great event for all involved,” said Morrison.

“We are really excited to welcome our Aussie and American friends for this series.”

New Zealand and USA both reached the semi-finals of the IMC Over-50s World Cup in Cape Town in March and both sides had very narrow wins over Australia in round-robin play.

The New Zealand A concept started last season, when NZ A and NZ B teams competed in the Australian National Championships, and they have been invited back to the same tournament this year.

All three international teams will be looking to finalise their combinations ahead of the IMC Over-50s World Cup, which will be held in Sri Lanka later in 2024.
