The National Women’s Team will be touring to Malaysia to participate in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship, scheduled to be held from June 17th to June 25th  2022.

10 sides will compete in the tournament namely Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Nepal, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar and Bhutan from which two finalists will qualify for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022, joining regional heavyweights India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh in October. The format of the tournament schedules 2 groups of 5 teams each – Group A : UAE , Malaysia , Oman , Qatar and Singapore and Group B: Nepal , Hong Kong , Kuwait , Bhutan and Bahrain – in a round robin league within their respective groups. 2 teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals then.

Oman’s Captain – Vaishali Jesrani speaking on the team claims , “ Another big exposure in our way, definitely a platform for many potential girls to enhance and express their cricketing potential. Women’s cricket is on a upbeat & being a part of such tournaments are motivating girls to be engaged with the sport at all times. Its about new opportunities & new learning. Oman women’ s cricket is building stronger block by block. We are hopeful of doing well in the tournament. The girls have been training day-in day-out to be expressive on the field.”

The Oman Women’s National Team’s previous tournament exposure at the international level came in the form of the GCC Women’s T20i Championship Cup held at the Oman Cricket Academy between March 20 and 26, 2022. With 4 wins in 5 games, Oman finished second behind the United Arab Emirates.

The competition itself is one that is aligned with and borne out of the Asian Cricket Council’s vision for the development of Women’s cricket in the region. It was originally set to be held in June 2020, but the global onset of the Covid-19 pandemic rendered its commencement untenable.
