The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), founded in 1967 by former England fast bowler Fred Rumsey as the Cricketers' Association, represents past and present first-class cricketers in England and Wales. In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. It also helped create a pension scheme in 1995 and launched the magazine All Out Cricket and the ACE UK Educational Programme in 2002.

Law firm continues support of Futures Awards.

The PCA has extended its ongoing partnership with Lodders, and the award-winning law firm will continue to be the headline sponsor of the Futures Awards.

Lodders first became a commercial partner of the PCA in 2020, before extending its support of the Association in August 2021 to officially champion the Futures initiatives, including headline sponsorship the Futures Awards.

In December 2021, for the first time ever the Futures Awards took place at Lodders’ head office in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Six shortlisted candidates, all current or former professional cricketers, travelled to Cheltenham to present their personal development progress to a panel consisting of both PCA and Lodders staff, who awarded the winners with prizes to aid their future development away from the cricket pitch.

On the back of the inaugural event’s resounding success, Lodders has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting PCA members with their personal development via the Futures Awards in 2022.

The law firm will also support the PCA’s wider Futures initiatives, including the two-day Futures Conference which sees PCA members congregate to discuss their personal development and hear from an array of speakers. The Futures Conference forms the centrepiece of Futures Week, an annual seven-day event which aims to highlight successful career transition stories among PCA members.

The Futures initiatives form part of the PCA’s Personal Development and Welfare Programme, a personalised support service which enables individuals to develop sustainable performance within and outside of cricket.

PCA Lead Personal Development Manager Charlie Mulraine said: “With Lodders’ support, we were able to take the Futures Awards to a new level of professionalisation in 2021. Their involvement throughout the process, including hosting the event itself on the day, made it a truly special experience for all of the candidates involved.

“Ultimately, the purpose of the Futures Awards is to support professional cricketers with their personal development away from the cricket pitch. Through extending our partnership with Lodders, we will be able to continue doing so for a long time to come, which is what makes today’s announcement so exciting.”

Lodders Marketing Director Hilary Campton said: “We are delighted to be extending Lodders’ support for the Futures Awards into 2022. It was a very rewarding and insightful experience in 2021, and we were hugely impressed with the talent, thought and ambition that had gone into the award submissions – the judging was not an easy task!

“The Futures initiatives are a perfect fit for our business and mirrors our own focus on helping our talented team to reach its potential. We are now committed to building on the programme for 2022, and to working with PCA staff to further enhance the experience for all applicants and finalists.”
