In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. It also helped create a pension scheme in 1995 and launched the magazine All Out Cricket and the ACE UK Educational Programme in 2002.

PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings is now powered by leading payments and currency risk management specialist.

The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) has today named Argentex, a leading global payment and currency risk management company, as the title partner for its Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rankings.

The agreement will see Argentex power the PCA MVP Rankings for a three-year term, in a landmark deal for the player association.

The trademark Argentex lion will appear on all MVP assets, including the Team of the Month and player competition awards. The London-based firm will also utilise the PCA’s access to past and present players to create digital content, whilst unlocking new opportunities amongst PCA members and the cricket business network.

The title partnership will come into effect immediately and in time for Vitality Blast Finals Day with the MVP the chosen mechanism to decide the winner of the Blast Player of the Year. Hampshire Hawks captain James Vince is currently leading the race going into the biggest day in the county calendar, which takes place on Saturday 15 July.

The PCA partnered with cricket’s leading analytics specialists CricViz in 2021 to produce the most accurate MVP formula to-date. The MVP’s algorithm is constantly evolving, to ensure the metric is the fairest reflection of performance.

The ranking system takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database and also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.

Supporters and media alike can immerse themselves in the MVP Rankings via the PCA website with tables able to be viewed by team or discipline. Fans can also track the Match MVP for every international and domestic fixture in England and Wales, providing unprecedented access to MVP statistics and information.

The winner of each domestic competition MVP wins £2,500 across the men’s and women’s game, with the winner of the Overall PCA Men’s Domestic MVP awarded £10,000 which is based on all four domestic competitions. In the ever-growing women’s game, the winner is based on the three professional competitions, with the winner transferred £7,500 for the Overall PCA Women’s Domestic MVP.
