Charlie Dean tops the MVP Rankings to win Royal London trophy
Charlie Dean has won the 2022 Royal London ODI Women’s Player of the Summer after finishing the campaign as the leading player on the MVP Rankings.
The bowling all-rounder deservedly takes the award following an impressive summer in ODI cricket which included finishing as England’s leading wicket taker in the format.
A summer of contrasting fortunes saw England win three-nil against South Africa and then end their busy schedule with a three-nil defeat against an impressive Indian side.
The Royal London ODI Women’s Player of the Summer is selected by the PCA MVP Rankings. The formula enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball based on their expected performance for that ball in comparison to CricViz’s extensive historical database of ODI cricket.
The 21-year-old played a pivotal part in England’s bowling attack this summer taking eleven wickets with an average of 25.1 and chipping in with 108 runs including a brilliant 47 in the final ODI at Lord’s and five catches, all of which won her 86 points on the ODI table.
Dean picked up the first of her two Match MVP awards in the second ODI against South Africa taking brilliant figures of 4-53 as well as two catches which earnt her 25 MVP points.
In the second game against India she took 1-39, a catch and then scored 37 off 44 at the end of the innings to earn 20 points and another Match MVP award.
In second place on the Rankings is Thunder and Manchester Originals’ all-rounder Emma Lamb who finished as the leading run scorer in ODI cricket this summer with 282 runs at an average of 47.
The 24-year-old opening batter has performed brilliantly this year and proved her skills at the top of the order earning her 55 points on the table.
In the first ODI of the summer against South Africa she scored an eye-catching 102 off 97 balls to win the match MVP scoring 16 points on the Rankings.
Lamb has also proved her all-round abilities scoring 65 off 66 in the third game against South Africa alongside taking a valuable 3-42.
With the conclusion of the Women’s Internationals this summer comes the confirmation of the Overall Women’s International winner as Sophie Ecclestone scoring an impressive 121 points throughout the summer in Test, ODI and IT20 cricket. Sophia Dunkley in second and Nat Sciver in third makes up a strong top three on the Overall table for England.
