The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has moved February’s tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series with New Zealand and South Africa from Multan to Lahore and Karachi. These cities are set to host the Champions Trophy later in the month.
The PCB stated the decision was based on the advanced stage of preparations at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi’s National Stadium, which are scheduled to host six of the 12 Champions Trophy group stage matches.
Lahore is also set to host a semi-final and the final, unless India qualifies, as India will play all their matches in Dubai under an agreement preventing India and Pakistan from playing in each other’s countries during ICC tournaments.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host three matches of the eight-team tournament. The PCB is upgrading facilities at all three venues as Pakistan prepares to host an ICC tournament for the first time since co-hosting the 1996 ODI World Cup.
The tri-series will take place from February 8-14, while the Champions Trophy begins on February 19 in Karachi, with defending champions Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match.
