Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi opened up about the departure of head coach Gary Kirsten, revealing that Kirsten breached his contract, leading to the decision to part ways.

Kirsten, who was appointed head coach six months ago, submitted his resignation, which was accepted immediately by the PCB. Reports suggest that his resignation was prompted by issues with the selection committee regarding squad selections for the upcoming tours to Australia and Zimbabwe.

While there has been no official confirmation of the reasons for his departure, it is reported that Kirsten was unhappy with the decision to rest Babar Azam for the ODIs and T20Is against Zimbabwe. He had been involved in extensive planning for the Champions ODI Cup and was working closely with players in preparation for the tours.

Mohsin Naqvi stated, “He (Kirsten) broke his contract with the PCB and made some breaches. He ended the contract with us.”

Naqvi also mentioned that the PCB is actively searching for a new head coach, indicating that a new white-ball coach will be appointed by the end of the month, following the Zimbabwe tour. Until then, red-ball coach Jason Gillespie will oversee the white-ball team.

Naqvi also discussed the situation regarding Fakhar Zaman, who was dropped from the central contract after posting a tweet about Babar Azam’s exclusion from the Test squad.

“The issue of the show cause notice will be handled by a special committee of the board while the selectors have authority over selection matters. I don’t interfere in the selectors and coaches work,” Naqvi stated.
