Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi is anticipated to succeed Jay Shah as the president of the Asian Cricket Council. Naqvi is expected to assume the role after the ACC meeting scheduled for October-November this year, as part of the ACC’s rotational leadership policy.

PTI sources indicate that Naqvi will be announced as Shah’s successor following these meetings, with his two-year term set to begin in 2025.

“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term. When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over,” the PTI source quoted.

Jay Shah served as the ACC president for four years, initially elected for a three-year term and later receiving a one-year extension. Shah was elected unopposed in August and is expected to become the ICC chairman.

Mohsin Naqvi’s upcoming two-year term as ACC president will involve overseeing the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be hosted in India, and playing a key role in the ACC’s strategic initiatives. As both PCB chairman and ACC president, Naqvi will also be involved in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, set to take place in Pakistan.

Naqvi was elected PCB chairman in February 2024 and also became Pakistan’s interior minister in March 2024. His potential nomination as ACC president would mark his third significant role within the same year.

Naqvi will need to address the challenge of India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, as they haven’t played there since 2008. His tenure has already faced criticism due to Pakistan’s loss to Bangladesh in the first Test and their early exit from the T20 World Cup after a heavy defeat to the USA
