Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reaffirmed his commitment to hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy in a grand manner.
“PCB is ready to make the Champions Trophy a memorable event,” Naqvi stated during an unannounced visit to Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
During the visit, the Chairman assessed the progress of construction and inspected the finishing work on the main building. He instructed officials to expedite the completion of finishing and drainage works within the stipulated timelines. Expressing satisfaction with the overall progress, he remarked, “Insha Allah, Gaddafi Stadium, equipped with modern facilities, will be completed this month,” adding that reconstruction for the Champions Trophy is advancing swiftly.
Naqvi highlighted upgrades at the venue, including the installation of new chairs, LED lights, and scoreboards. He added that fans could look forward to a laser light show alongside the matches.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) visited Gaddafi Stadium to evaluate its readiness for the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy, scheduled in Pakistan from February to March. The delegation, comprising ICC officials, broadcasters, and logistics experts, inspected various facilities such as media boxes, dressing rooms, and spectator enclosures.
Usman Wahla, Director of PCB’s International Cricket, briefed the ICC team on ongoing enhancements, which are set to be completed within the month to meet international standards.
Gaddafi Stadium will host at least four matches during the Champions Trophy, including the second semi-final on March 5. The tournament, featuring eight teams divided into two groups, will be held across three venues in Pakistan and Dubai.
The event will commence on February 19 in Karachi, with Pakistan facing New Zealand. A highly anticipated match between arch-rivals Pakistan and India is set for February 23 in Dubai.
Prior to Lahore, the ICC delegation visited the National Bank Stadium in Karachi to assess its preparedness. The team conducted a comprehensive review to ensure readiness for the action-packed tournament.
Group-A features Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group-B includes Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia.
