Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed no concerns regarding BCCI secretary Jay Shah‘s appointment as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman.

Shah was elected unopposed as ICC chairman late last month, being the only nominee after current chairman Greg Barclay opted not to seek a third term. Naqvi also addressed Shah’s new role and the upcoming Asian Cricket Council meeting.

“We are in touch with Jay Shah; there are no concerns about his becoming ICC Chairman. The ACC meeting is on September 8 and 9,” Naqvi said.

“I will not be able to attend the meeting, and Salman Nasir will attend. The meeting will finalise matters related to the new president,” he added.

Jay Shah will officially take over as ICC chairman on December 1, 2024, becoming the youngest person ever to lead the organization. He follows in the footsteps of other prominent Indian figures such as Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar, who have previously held the position.

Pakistan is set to host the ICC Champions Trophy next year, with major renovations underway at Karachi National Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in preparation for the event.

Ahead of the tournament, Pakistan is struggling with poor form. Under Jason Gillespie, in his first assignment as Test head coach, the Shan Masood-led side suffered a 3-0 home series defeat against Bangladesh.

This loss dropped Pakistan to eighth in the ICC Test rankings, their lowest position since 1965, apart from a brief period when they were unranked due to a lack of matches.
