PCB firmly reacts to report suggesting CT 2025 final may be moved if India qualifies

Amid speculation about India’s participation in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy being moved out of Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly issued a firm denial of claims that India’s matches could be relocated to the UAE. A report from the Telegraph UK suggested the final might be moved if India qualified, due to political tensions between the two nations.

The report indicated that if India reached the final, it could be shifted from Lahore to Dubai, with semi-final relocations also being considered.

India has not toured Pakistan since July 2008, with political tensions preventing bilateral series or tournament participation on Pakistani soil. This history raised concerns that India’s involvement in the Champions Trophy could face logistical adjustments by the ICC.

However, according to a report, the PCB swiftly dismissed the report. In a strong statement, the board reiterated its commitment to hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan.

“Despite the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, the PCB remains steadfast in its stance to ensure a successful and uninterrupted tournament,” said the PCB.

The board also refuted the idea of relocating any matches, especially the final, stating, “There is absolutely no truth to the reports suggesting that the Champions Trophy final could be moved outside Pakistan. We are working diligently to ensure all preparations for the tournament are on track, and we are confident that Pakistan will host a memorable event.”

No official statement from the ICC has been released regarding venue changes, although some reports suggest the tournament might adopt a hybrid model similar to the 2023 Asia Cup, where India played its matches in Sri Lanka.

The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to be a major cricketing event ahead of the World Test Championship final in June.
