Pakistan is set to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but reports from Indian media, cited by Express News, suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested written assurances from the ICC regarding the hybrid model for future tournaments.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to finalize decisions on hosting and match arrangements on Wednesday.
Indian media claims that the PCB’s demand for a written guarantee follows discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about implementing the hybrid model in future ICC events.
Under the hybrid model, which Pakistan has already accepted for the Champions Trophy, India’s matches will be played in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will occur in Pakistan. Semi-finals or the final involving India will also be held in Dubai, as sources within the ICC confirm that the Indian government’s policies prevent their team from traveling to Pakistan.
Despite agreeing to this arrangement for the Champions Trophy, the PCB has expressed concerns about the continuity of this model for future international tournaments and is seeking written confirmation from the ICC before finalizing further agreements.
The Emirates Cricket Board, which has been closely following these developments, has confirmed its readiness to host India’s matches. The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
