The Perth Scorchers will remain on the East Coast for the rest of the BBL|11 season with confirmation that their remaining five KFC Big Bash League home games will be relocated due to the COVID-19 border restrictions in Western Australia.The announcement on Monday regarding the WA borders opening on Saturday 5 February and New South Wales transitioning to a ‘extreme risk’ state, means the Scorchers will not host any more Big Bash regular season fixtures in WA for the rest of this summer.

Perth’s upcoming home match scheduled for Optus Stadium on Monday 20 December has been relocated to Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

The Scorchers will take on the Melbourne Renegades for their Boxing Day clash on Sunday 26 December at Marvel Stadium, and return to Docklands on Thursday 30 December to face the Melbourne Stars.

The team will then take on the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers on Wednesday 5 January and Thursday 6 January respectively, with a venue still to be determined.

The Perth Scorchers (WA Cricket) and Cricket Australia have worked closely with the WA State Government on the rules around border restrictions, hosting major events and protecting the health of Western Australians.

WA Cricket CEO, Christina Matthews said;

“We are extremely disappointed for our Members and fans who love coming to the Scorchers match days and cheering on their team at Optus Stadium. We would love nothing more than to play these matches at home to show our appreciation to our supporter base.

“We have worked tirelessly over the past few months to secure as many BBL matches as possible. Unfortunately, the border restrictions and the League’s inability to change fixtures has meant we have had to relocate our home matches to continue our season.

“We are incredibly grateful to our Members, fans and Partners who stood by us last year in a similar situation. We know how important home games are to them and to our team.

“Our team have started strong with three wins from their first three matches and there is no doubt our players will be putting in the extra effort to finish the season off on a high as a gesture of thanks to all our supporters.”
